Our Wood Products Contruction

All products manufactured by Senior Furnishings.com are built using the most trusted construction techniques that have been in practice for centuries. Ensuring the integrity of a piece of furniture is the number one priority in furniture construction. Therefore, we insist on holding to the furniture standards established through years of handcrafted furniture experience. Wood is a natural product which reacts to the environment and these furniture standards will allow the product to react without compromising the longevity.

 

The interior construction of a piece of wood furniture often plays a more important role in its longevity than its beautifully finished or natural exterior wood. Senior Furnishings.com wood furniture construction uses a combination of solid hardwoods, plies and engineered wood. These parts are machined using Joinery techniques such as Mortise and Tenon joints, Dowel Joints and Dovetail joinery. While the design may demand a different type of joinery, all of our tops are constructed using veneer and engineered substrate (core) materials. This construction falls under the Plies and engineered wood application which allows beautiful veneers to be used on tops that will not move or transfer reaction to the environment into the tops.

 

We consider these manufacturing applications to be critical to our success. Wood furniture construction is both an art and a science. The beauty achieved through elaborate finishing techniques coupled with today’s advanced manufacturing techniques results in wood furniture that is not only very attractive, but sturdy and durable, too. Our Cushion Constructions: H3L POLY DAC

Senior Furnishings.com standard Senior Living / Healthcare loose seat cushion is a 2.5 density, 30 IFD Ultracel™ foam (“POLY”) wrapped with 0.75 ounce low-melt polyester (“DAC”) on each side. Foam is buffed on two sides to add crown to the seat cushion. 


Our Frame Constructions

To maximize strength and durability, frames are constructed of solid kiln dried hardwoods and laminated hardwood veneers. Many major stress joints feature both triple doweling and corner blocks that are attached with glue, staples and four screws. To insure frame integrity and compatibility with style and design requirements, frames are engineered to use a variety of joint constructions. All solid hardwood is dried to 6% - 8% moisture content.

 

Back & Arm Pillow Types

Fiber Backs & Arm Pillows. Most loose and semi-attached backs and arm pillows are all fiber. The fiber is enclosed in a non-woven fabric with partitions inside to keep the fiber from shifting. The fiber used is a hollow conjugate with a silicone finish to provide superior loft and resiliency.

 

FeatherBlendTM Backs & Arm Pillows

Premium back pillows that contain a filling combination of 50% Ultima SupremeTM polyester fiber/45% duck feather/5% duck down and arm pillows that are filled with 100% duck feather and down, are available as an option. The feather and down fill has been cleaned and dried using the Pacific Coast Feather Cushion Company’s exclusive UltracleanTM process. The result is a debris free, hypo-allergenic natural fill with exceptional performance. All feather and down adheres to the standard of the bedding industry for maximum comfort and luxury.

 

Soft-Luxe Spring Construction

The Soft-Luxe individually pocketed spring system is the latest design innovation in upholstered furniture engineered to provide the ultimate in comfort. The Soft-Luxe system features a minimum of 100 coils per seat, or a minimum of 300 coils per sofa. Each seat cushion has a separate coil suspension that eliminates “roll-together” and provides seating comfort for every individual regardless of shape or size. The Soft-Luxe seating system will provide years of durable and carefree service to even the most active families. Some frame styles use drop-in coil units or sinuous wire springs.

Please note that all our finishes are applied by hand and require multiple steps from skilled artisans to achieve the fine, rich look that is the hallmark of Senior Furnishings.com finishes. As a result, each piece will be unique. Variations in color, shading, burnishing, distressing, crackle, texture and other characteristics create this uniqueness. All our finishes are formulated with UV inhibitors, which help reduce the bleaching effects of sunlight on wood. UV inhibitors work similarly as sunscreen does for the skin. Like sunscreen, our UV inhibitors reduce the sun’s harmful effects but do not completely eliminate them. Direct and prolonged exposure to sunlight should still be avoided.

 

Orders, Shipping, Receipt

Order, Shipping and Receipt

Senior Furnishings order to receipt time vary depending on your selection. Our furniture is custom made for you, however our accessories, botanicals, and artwork ship quicker from our warehouse.  With furniture Senior Furnishings will immediately will send out a purchaser package on all FAQ items listed here, as well as mail a hard copy immediately after your order. It is very important you understand the complete terms below.

 

One item that can affect lead time for furniture delivery is availability of fabric. We always strive to ensure what is on our website is available, and guarantee Kravet fabrics are in stock, however because fabric is a commodity, quantities are in constant flux. We update all our fabric quantities every few days to ensure we have enough, however this does not guarantee stock, with the exception of fabric. Immediately upon placement of your order, we will reconfirm the availability of the fabric you chose, and should the fabric not be available, we will offer you to reselect a new fabric, or cancel your order within the first 72 hours of ordering.

 

 * Furniture Lead Time: Order to Receipt 10-12 weeks depending on delivery location and time of year, such as over winter holiday period. 

 * Accessories, Botanicals and Artwork: Order to Receipt 2-4 weeks depending on delivery location and time of year, such as over winter holiday period. 

 

We offer White Glove delivery service at an additional cost which can be quoted at time of order. This involves delivery beyond threshold, unpacking, and placing furniture. See below for further information.


Our Furniture Returns

As our furniture is all custom made to your liking we do not offer returns, but do offer buyer’s remorse cancellation. When you check out, you will see printed invoice, detailing your selection of frame, fabric, and finish – verify it closely as this is what will be shipped to you. You will be asked to verify our terms prior to paying our non-return policy and agree to it. From the time of purchase, we allow only 48 hours for buyer’s remorse, and offer a full refund. This 48 hour period will commence from 8 am EST the following business day, and end at 5 pm EST the following day. If you make a purchase on Friday, the 48 hour period will begin on Saturday and end Sunday at 5 pm EST.

 

If any frame or fabric is out of stock and you have paid for the order, we will offer a full refund for the item(s) or a reselection for a new item. We will notify you of any discrepancy within 72 hours of your order on the next business day.

 

Senior Furnishings will not accept returned merchandise without a signed Return Authorization issued by our Customer Service Department. If a return is authorized, it is the sole responsibility of the buyer to make sure that the product is cartoned properly to prevent any further damage. Senior Furnishings will provide you a return label at completion of the Return Authorization. The only reasons we would consider a return are for a manufacturing defect, shipping damage, or an error in our order processing. Returns are not accepted for incorrect choices made on the customer’s part.

Items which are damaged*, differ from the invoice – i.e. wrong fabric, etc. will be replaced at no cost to the buyer. The replacement will be as described on the invoice. When there is an error on Senior Furnishings part, we default to the following procedure.

Item Image – This will always show the fabric, wood, and accessory you choose. Written Description – As we resell Fabric under the direct name, if we mislabel a fabric, the visual selection will always supersede the written description.

* Sometimes a chair or sofa arrives with a defect. Upon reviewing the item's defect from pictures provided, we may dispatch a factory consultant to correct the defect. This is done usually in the case of small defects, which can be repaired, and ensure the furniture still is new quality, i.e. no different than correcting it at the factory, prior to shipping. This will help to ensure no delay on your part to use the furniture.

Defective items must be photographed and submitted to Senior Furnishings at the time of the Return Authorization to receive a return. Proper documentation, including digital photos of the defect must accompany the request. If a return is authorized, the item must be shipped within seven (7) days of the date of the RA, or depending on the size of the return, the buyer will need to be available at our choosing for the freight pick-up. Any signs of use, missing parts, etc. will reduce the amount of the credit issued to the buyer, and be at the sole discretion of Senior Furnishings.

Unauthorized returns will be automatically refused at our dock, and Senior Furnishings will not be liable for any damages or losses. Liability for defective merchandise shall be limited to the replacement or repair of that merchandise, and Senior Furnishings shall not be liable for other damages or losses, such as Acts of God (including major storms), terrorism, fire, theft, flood, union strike related to shipping, i.e. rail and freight.


Non-Furniture Returns

Customers must contact us for a Return Authorization. Senior Furnishings customers are responsible for returning the original product with all original packaging included. We will exchange or refund any of our Non-furniture products as long as we receive it within 30 days after our customer has received the item. Merchandise returned without an authorization, original packaging is subject to Senior Furnishings approval based on selling condition and/or 25% repackaging fee. Shipping and handling fees are non-refundable.

 

Freight Damage & Claims

Senior Furnishings is not liable for any damages to products that occur during transit or storage. The carrier assumes all responsibility upon acceptance of product. It is the buyer’s responsibility to inspect products upon receipt (at the time the product is offloaded from the carrier) and file an immediate claim with the carrier. If products are received damaged, a written exception should be made on the bill of lading and an immediate inspection be requested of the carrier – if not you risk not being able to receive a credit for the claim. Once the truck leaves, UPS, Old Dominion, etc. the ability to file a claim with transportation becomes harder.  You will be required by the freight company to provide, pictures of the cardboard cartons with damage prior to opening, the actual damaged non-broken down cartons, and pictures as well as the actual damaged furniture.  Senior Furnishings does not load cartons with forklifts, and is all hand packed and hand loaded to ensure when the product leaves our factory it is in pristine condition. Accidents in shipping happen, and when they do, we want to make sure you are taken care of, so please call us immediately at receipt of the item, so we may talk to you and the shipper if possible prior to them departing. If the carton is severely damaged, you do not need to accept it, and can refuse offloading, however once the item leaves the truck to you, it cannot be reloaded onto the 3rd party freight carrier.

 

Concealed damage must be reported to the carrier within 48 hours of receipt of the items. This requirement supersedes any carrier requirement if the carrier allows for more time. The reason we insist on this, is if there is a claim, and it is processed immediately, it is legitimate it is almost never denied.


White Glove Delivery

Senior Furnishings can offer white glove delivery to threshold or interior for furniture.  This service is not available for our other items.  This service is an added cost and would be quoted after checkout after we receive the order and you contact us.  The advantage to white glove delivery is everything is inspected (prior to delivery by a 3rd party at the shipper, and delivered with utmost care.  With White Glove, all furniture is delivered at the schedule you desire. Additionally, if you have mobility issues, or are a senior, and would like to have your furniture delivered, unwrapped, and cartons and packaging disposed, white glove service would provide all of this. On average White Glove Delivery will add 20-30% of the cost of the product.

 

Purchase Terms and Conditions

Order Entry

All orders are subject to final acceptance by Senior Furnishings in Pasadena, CA. Senior Furnishings attempts to clarify all purchase orders. Acknowledgments will be made for each accepted order and contain the final order specifications, and will be emailed to you in addition to your purchase receipt.

 

Senior Furnishings cannot be responsible for errors made on any orders taken over the phone if written confirmation from the buyer has not been received.


Cancellations & Change

Because all upholstery items are manufactured to the buyer’s specifications, acknowledged orders cannot be cancelled for any reason without the written authorization of Senior Furnishings. If a cancellation is approved, it will be subject to a charge of 85% of the net price. The buyer is responsible for checking their purchase receipt and order acknowledgment to make sure that every detail is correct. If any errors are found, it is the buyer’s responsibility to contact our Order Entry Department within 48 hours from time of order. Receipt of our acknowledgment indicates acceptance of your order subject to the terms set forth on the acknowledgment. From the time of purchase, we allow only 48 hours for changes or cancellation, and offer a full refund. This 48 hour period will commence from 8 am EST the following business day, and end at 5 pm EST the following day. If you make a purchase on Friday, the 48 hour period will begin on Saturday and end Sunday at 5 pm EST.

 

Sometimes a customer may want to change their mind after the cancellation period has expired, however Senior Furnishings is not required to accept any changes to furniture orders given the furniture is custom made for you. For any accepted and authorized changes, Senior Furnishings reserves the right to charge for any expenses incurred due to the change. This includes material, labor, and any other costs, plus up to 35% of the net price. Order changes may also change production and ship date of your order. 

 

Warranty

Senior Furnishings warrants its merchandise to be free of defects in materials and workmanship for two (2) years under normal single shift use and conditions to the original purchaser. Exceptions to this warranty include:


• Certain frames with delicate features, as denoted in the catalog – Not warranted
• Fabrics – Not warranted
• Cushions – 1 year
• Back cushions and arm pillows – Two (2) years
• Knee Tilt and Gas Lift mechanisms – Two (2) years
• Casters – Two (2) years
• Glides – Not warranted
• Recliner mechanisms – Two (2) years
• Sleeper mechanisms – Two (2) years
• Renting, recovering, misuse or abuse – not warranted
• Damage due to carrier or customer handling – not warranted
• Case Goods – One (1) year

 

Fabrics are not covered by this warranty (please use an appropriate wear tested fabric for use conditions).

 

The warranty for seat cushion cores is against a loss of resiliency. Through normal use, all cushion cores will soften and lose loft with time. Loose seat and back cushions should be fluffed and turned weekly; polyester fibers will lose loft with normal use and is not be considered defective.

 

Warranty service is handled through Senior Furnishings. Should service be needed, contact your furniture agent/dealer. After receiving Senior Furnishings authorization, the agent/dealer will either repair or return the defective item to the factory for repair or replacement.

 

Senior Furnishing’s responsibility for transportation is from the location to which Senior Furnishings originally shipped. Outside of the U.S.A., warranty is limited to replacement parts only. Replacement parts for office mechanisms, office bases, loose seat and back cush ion cores and swivel rocker bases are without charge. Installation of these items is the responsibility of the purchaser and is not covered by this warranty.

 

Consequential and incidental damages are excluded from this warranty. This warranty gives you specific legal right, and you may also have other rights that vary from state to state. Our frames are constructed to support individuals up to 275 pounds maximum.

 

Use & Care

Care of our Wood Finishes

For day to day maintenance, regular dusting with a dry soft cloth is recommended.

 

Cleaning requires only wiping with a clean, damp cloth and then drying. To remove general soil, the coated surface may be wiped clean with a fresh solution of mild soap (ie, Murphy’s Oil Soap; mix as directed) and water. The cloth should be soft and dampened with the soap solution. The surface should then be wiped down with a clean dry, soft cloth to remove excess moisture. It is important to ensure that the surface is dried. Always wipe in the direction of the wood grain.

 

Other “wood cleaning” products exist but may contain alkaline reagents or other ingredients which may damage the coated surface. Over time these materials can soften the finish potentially leading to film failure. The softening may also lead to incidental damage from environmental influences such as water or moisture damage, increased susceptibility to scratching or abrasion, and staining.

 

Household polishes that are wax free and silicone free can be used on an infrequent basis (we recommend Guardsman Furniture Polish).

 

Points to remember: Routine cleaning will prevent long term damage from dirt and grease which will form a film over time, dulling and discoloring the finish. Using anything other than a mild soap solution and then drying the surface with a soft cloth may damage the finish.

 

Where possible, keep finish away from exposure to direct sun. Over time sunlight may change the color of the finish, and/or damage the finish.

 

Avoid extremes in temperature or moisture as they can cause wood to expand or contract leading to potential coating damage.

Additionally, all our finishes are formulated with an antimicrobial additive (silver ions) which inhibits the growth of mold, mildew, fungus and bacteria on the finish surface.

 

As with any finish, wood is soft and can scratch and chip.  This occurs primarily in senior living facilities under high usage.  Our wood finishes are finished to commercial grade standards for hardness and our wood is kiln dried for hardness, however, we cannot guarantee against damage caused by canes, walkers, wheelchairs, as these items have metal surfaces which can damage the wood frames.  If you are a facility, and should residents damage your furniture, we can provide an additional small can of stain, free of charge upon request, to allow for touch ups to keep your furniture looking like new.

* Grade 1: Our lowest priced fabrics at fantastic value for money - non-treated fabric for stain resistance

* Grade 2: Slight increase in price - generally simple patterns, solids, or vinyls, which are Crypton® treated (excluding vinyls as there is no need to treat them)

* Grade 3: increase in price - more complex patterns, textures, or textured vinyls, which are Crypton® treated (excluding vinyls as there is no need to treat them)

* Grade 4: Highest priced - Unique one-of-a-kind fabrics which use highly advanced patterns and textures, all are Crypton® treated (excluding vinyls as there is no need to treat them)
